Dr. Douglas P. Reed directs the Masters in Gerontology program at the University of Central Oklahoma. Prior to coming to UCO in January of 2000 he was director of the undergraduate Gerontology and Health Administration programs at Langston University from 1996 to 1999. He was also a faculty member at Phillips University in Enid, OK from 1993 to 1996. Dr. Reed completed his Ph.D. in Sociology at Oklahoma State University in 1992, his M.A. in 1986 and B.A. in 1980 in Sociology at East Carolina University.
Dr. Reed teaches a variety of Gerontology courses, coordinates Gerontology student practicum placements with local aging services organizations, and sponsors the UCO chapter of Sigma Phi Omega, the national Gerontology honor society. Dr. Reed’s research interests focus on retirement migration and adaptive housing for the elderly.
