The Executive Committee of AAUP-UCO met for the first time this school year on September 3. President John Springer told the group he talked to new faculty at an orientation meeting and he encouraged efforts to recruit new members. Here's the link to the national AAUP. He encouraged all faculty to donate $10 or more to the AAUP-UCO by sending a check to Dr. Amy Carrell, AAUP-UCO Treasurer, Box 184. The board also decided on committee assignments for the new year.

The AAUP-UCO recently gave out its awards for the year. Dr. Rosa Bird, professor of Modern Languages, won the Distinguished Scholar Award. Dr. Gladys Lewis, professor of English, won the Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Siegfried Heit, professor of Humanities, won the Distinguished Service to AAUP Award.

Have you been following the Academic Bill of Rights movement, which is dedicated to abolishing free speech in the college classroom? We need a strong, united voice to counter those people and groups in our culture who want to abolish the free expression of university educators inside and outside the classroom. Please join the national AAUP. In addition, you can also become a Friend of AAUP-UCO. You can contact an AAUP Executive Committee member in your college to obtain a form, or simply send a $10 check made out to AAUP-UCO to Treasurer Seigfried Heit, Liberal Arts, Box 186. Please include your contact information, including an email address.
